TBI Treatment Act to be discussed at June Neuro-Recovery Conference

Posted 2nd June 2010

MMDNewswire.com- The 1st Annual Neuro-Recovery & Health Conference of Northern California (www.healingsacramento.com) - to be held on June 12th - will feature a discussion of the recently passed HR 4568 - the TBI Treatment Act.

KP Stoller, MD (MMD Newswire) June 2, 2010 -- on of the three vanguard physicians, that will speak at this one day conference being held at William Jessup University, is a principal investigator of the National Brain Injury Rescue and Rehab Project (NBIRR) that will assist Iraqi and Afghan vets who have suffered TBI/PTSD utilizing hyperbaric oxygen.

Urijah Faber, MAA, aka "The California Kid" will share the podium with George Visger retired NFL player (49er) to relate their experiences with hyperbaric oxygen. Faber has been using hyperbaric oxygen to recover quickly from fight injuries including a broken hand. Visger has been using hyperbaric oxygen to recover from brain injury (TBI) over the course of his football career.

NBIRR will directly impact the greatest public health crisis of our age, untreated brain insults including traumatic brain injury. Federal, state and local budgets are paying for the consequences of modern medicine failing to treat brain insults with protocols that biologically repair brain damage. Lost performance and aberrant behavior of injured individuals costs billions and billions each and every year in entitlement, prison, education, and safety net programs, not to mention the challenges faced by current and past combat veterans.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is FDA-cleared for many kinds of non-healing wounds and is the only FDA-approved non-hormonal treatment approved to repair and regenerate human tissue. It causes a biological repair to tissue damaged by a lack of oxygen or compromised circulation and signals DNA to begin the healing process.

There have now been two peer-reviewed publications of battle casualties making a major recovery after having been treated with HBOT 1.5. To date 80% of those treated with this protocol have been able to return to duty, work, or school. On average they have experienced a 15 point IQ increase, a 37% decrease in post-concussion syndrome symptoms, and a 28% reduction in PTSD, after the first 40 of 80 treatments. These results are dramatic and greater than any other single or combination of therapies currently available to physicians today.

Urijah Faber will be taking an active role in helping educate brain injured vets of the NBIRR Project.

The TBI Treatment Act must still pass the US Senate, but should become law by the first of August.
