The Malta Independent - An open day has been held at the Gozo General Hospital's hyperbaric unit to mark the unit's first anniversary. All Gozo diving schools were invited to take part. Instructors and divers were given information about how the unit operates, and its benefits, while also being given the opportunity to enter the recompression chamber.
The hyperbaric unit, built partly with EU structural funds, cost in all e1.2 million. The development included the purchase and cleaning of two ships, which were sunk at Xatt l-Ahmar to serve as a diving attraction. The recompression chamber has been used in three emergency cases related to diving, but has also been utilized to provide oxygen treatment to hospital patients.
