KCRA.COM - CARMICHAEL, Calif. -- An 8-year-old boy who had his nose nearly bitten off by a French bulldog in Rocklin is undergoing a special pure oxygen therapy at Mercy San Juan Medical Center aimed at speeding recovery, hospital officials said Monday.
Jimmy Speer, a third-grader at Twin Oaks Elementary School, has undergone plastic surgery and has been getting treatments in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber, similar to that used by some pro athletes, said Melissa Jue, a hospital representative. "Treatment has gone very well, and will mostly likely finish up today," Jue said. The oxygen treatment is intended to help the wound heal. Jue said the boy's family reported that the dog bit the boy on Feb. 1. She said the child initially received treatment at another hospital, and was later brought to Mercy San Juan.
