Did you know...

"Every time you go up in an aeroplane you are sitting in a hyperbaric chamber. Hyperbaric is simply a term describing an increase in ambient pressure." - Professor Philip James MB ChB DIH Phd FFOM.

Achilles' injuries tie that binds

Posted 5th April 2010

But when he said during Monday's news conference that he tore his right Achilles' tendon and “it hurt quite a bit at times,” I knew what he meant.

Been there. Actually been past there.

Woods revealed that he tore his right Achilles' tendon in December 2008 and several other times in the 2009 golf season but that he taped that sucker up and kept on playing and winning. He was fortunate that his injury didn't require surgery.

Less than 72 hours after I shredded my right Achilles' attempting to put on a splendid display of basketball at the Rockets' practice facility, I was in surgery. Almost 10 months later, with a couple of setbacks — pinched nerves, falls up and down stairs, and not nearly enough time off — I'm still limping.

Woods received two therapies I didn't — platelet rich plasma therapy, a blood-spinning technique designed to accelerate healing, from a Canadian doctor, and the use of a hyperbaric chamber.

I was on crutches for three months, in a walking boot for a couple of more months and have been relying mostly on physical therapy and painkillers.

While Woods apparently chased women left and right, I can't even chase my dog Machado around the couch. While I have been afraid to take a golf swing since suffering the injury, Woods continued to be the best golfer in the world.

I thought we decided this guy is human, didn't we?
