Physiological Control During HBO Treatment

Dr. A.A. Churkin
Chief Psychiatrist, Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation

Summary:
The positive changes on EEG and REG, which are taken after completion of the course of treatment normally correlate with therapeutic effect, which was achieved. As a result the pathological changes, which were present in the beginning of the treatment, become normalized. The most positive feature is the change in blood replenishment of cerebral vessels, a decrease in peripheral vessels resistance and normalization of venal circulation. During evaluation of medical effect of HBO it is important to remember, that usually EEG and REG data go slightly ahead of therapeutic effect and that the clinical improvement do not have stable effect immediately after the end of the course. This comes slightly later, but the presence of the positive changes in neuro-dynamics and hema -dynamics can be viewed as criteria for success.
